One of the rooms in the home that needs to be cleaned on a regular basis is the kitchen. The kitchen is the room where food is prepared, so all surfaces should be as clean as possible to stop the spread of bacteria.

It seems common sense, but it’s amazing how many people don’t clean their work surfaces before and after they have prepared food. Work surfaces should always be spotless. However, all manner of everyday items are dumped on the kitchen worksurface, from things such as shopping bags and handbags to dirty clothing and even workwear. These sorts of items come into contact with dirt all the time, so it’s easy to see how this dirt can be transferred to your food preparation areas.

One of the most unhygienic items in the kitchen, which can often be a hive for bacteria, is the kitchen sponge or cloth. And it’s often these items we use to clean the kitchen or wipe down surfaces. Clothes and sponges should be changed regularly and soaked in diluted bleach every so often whilst in use to kill germs.

It’s also important to make sure the fridge is clean, and we don’t mean the outside of the fridge. Many people simply put food into the fridge and take it out when they need it but don’t consider that the inside of the fridge needs cleaning too.
